Lines Written in Early Spring – William Wordsworth
AQA GCSE English Literature: Worlds and Lives Poetry Anthology
41-slide PowerPoint and 3 worksheets – fully editable
Bring William Wordsworth’s Lines Written in Early Spring to life in your classroom with this comprehensive two-lesson teaching resource for AQA GCSE English Literature. Designed to meet all AQA assessment objectives, this engaging and fully editable pack helps students explore the poem’s context, language, structure and themes through clear guidance, interactive activities and model exam responses.
Lesson One introduces Wordsworth and the Romantic movement, setting the poem in its historical and philosophical context. Learners analyse how Wordsworth contrasts the harmony of nature with human disconnection and corruption, using guided reading, comprehension, and contextual study tasks.
Lesson Two develops close analytical skills, focusing on language, imagery, structure and themes. A detailed stanza-by-stanza breakdown, scaffolded essay practice, and opportunities for independent interpretation build students’ confidence in AO2 analysis and exam-style writing.
The resource explores the poem’s key themes—the natural world, spirituality, reflection, innocence, and purity—and provides insight into Wordsworth’s form and structure. A final comparison section supports GCSE comparative poetry skills, linking Lines Written in Early Spring with Shall Earth No More Inspire Thee.
Perfect for whole-class teaching or revision, this resource offers everything you need to teach Wordsworth’s Lines Written in Early Spring effectively and with confidence.
A SOW for Hope Springs, the Richard Conlon play, created for a Y8 class. Comes with a booklet to support teaching.

Sequence of 5 days of instructions for children to read and write their own Spring Poems. Suitable for EYFS/KS1. Document is PDF. Can be used in the classroom or online learning.

This 18 slide PowerPoint highlights the ‘Spectacular’ signs of Spring.
I have included photographs taken in and around Wythenshawe and a video providing audial and visual aids to celebrate this wonderful time of year. The rhyming string throughout the PowerPoint complements the photographs. This resource would be a great introduction to a nature sound walk for children in early years and a visual aid introducing signs of Spring. The language can be adapted to cater for the needs of your children. Metaphors have been used throughout the poem which would be a great introduction to poetry for older children and also to introduce the use of cameras to capture the beauty of nature.
