GCSE Literature - OCR Conflict Poetry Knowledge Organiser

(2)
A revision resource for GCSE English Literature focused on the OCR Towards a World Unknown Poetry Anthology, specifically the Conflict cluster of poems. I encourage my students to highlight the sections on the sheet as we cover the material. It also serves as a basis for checking knowledge later on. It is designed to fit on a single side of A4 paper, though it scales decently to A3 for displaying. The single-page resource contains: a short summary of each poem in the cluster a grouping of the poems based on the types of conflict discussed a brief guide on how to read poems a list of terminology relevant to the poems in the cluster information about how the exam is structured Both the .pdf and the .pub are included so that you can customise it to your teaching groups.

OCR GCSE English Language and Literature Crib Sheets

Paper 1 and Paper 2 Reading Sections each take up a page. I have taken each question and highlighted command words and summarized what the question is looking for or 'wants'. As the papers mirror one another they are the same in parts apart from question 2, which is made clear. I have also added a sample comparative sentence example for each section 4. Each writing advice section takes up half a page. The Literature is a similar set-up with each component taking half a page. It's what we as teachers know but I've condensed it down so students can see that these exams are manageable and some questions want the same approach.

GCSE English OCR poetry notes/analysis

(0)
GCSE English conflict poetry analysis / notes for OCR ‘Towards a World Unknown’ conflict poetry anthology. Contains a concise overview of each poem and analysed key quotes as well as important structural and language points. The poems are in the same order found in the anthology. I used these to revise for my GCSE mocks (and GCSE exams before they were cancelled) and achieved a Level 9. I suggest you print off the document and make revision cards/further notes from these and learn the key quotes - use them along side the anthology as they don’t have the full poems written out. I am a visual learner and have included pictures and colour which you may also find helpful. I am a student - they may not be perfect but they worked for me and may also help you. Some poems are explored in more depth than others because I felt there was more to talk about. Use as revision - once you have studied the poems.

GCSE Spoken Language Presentations 9-1. Mini Scheme of Work. AQA, EDUQAS, OCR.

(0)
Mini scheme of work for the new spoken language element of the English Language 9-1 GCSE. As you know, exam boards are now displaying speaking and listening grades on certificates and video recording of candidates is expected. As such, I've developed this scheme of work to ensure that my classes deliver intelligent, thoughtful and engaging presentations to secure the best possible grades. This scheme is particularly tailored for the AQA specification (and contains exemplar material from AQA candidates). However, I'm sure it will prove equally useful for all other exam boards with some very minor alterations. This is a complete mini-scheme that takes around 8 hours to complete properly. You'll also need to allow another couple of lessons on top of this for the presentations themselves. The Powerpoint will coach your students from start to finish and will cover the following aspects: * Understanding the spec and mark scheme * Generating an engaging topic (provocative statement) * How to research effectively for a presentation * Structuring the talk itself * Writing in shorthand for cue cards * Looking at exemplar material to understand the ingredients of a good presentation * Paired rehearsals * Final presentations * Student reflection activity to record grade and consider skills developed. You also have a writing frame which takes the form of a 'checklist'. This is ideal for weaker groups who might struggle with the sheer size of the task; it therefore helps them break their speech right down. I've also included the specimen Spoken Language mark scheme that has been issued across all exam boards, for your reference. I've found that the scheme has worked very well due to the high level of focus in terms of getting the topic right that students talk about. There's lots of guidance on this particular aspect of the process so I'm sure you will have as much success with your groups as I've had.
