Year 1 Phonics oi sound Full Lesson

(0)
Year 1 Phonics oi sound I have used the letters and sounds scheme to help structure the phonics input. This is the full lesson for Year 1 and 2. Suitable for Year 1 and 2 and lower KS2 for lower ability students. Children will practise words (including alien words) and sentences using the focus sound. Words are presented with images so it’s more inclusive for the classroom. Ideal for use as a full lesson, consolidation or for interventions. #phonics #phonicsscreening #phonicsscreeningcheck #eal #send #consolidation #blending #segmenting #visuals Children can apply writing using the graphemes on whiteboards or notebooks. The first part is teaching. Children practise the writing when they see the pencil. When writing, children see the picture first to help them segment the word. ***Please note, this resource is strictly for personal and educational use in school and at home. You can use my resource as many times as you like; however, resources may not be used commercially, sold or shared. #phonics #year1 #year2 #keystage1 #earlyreading #reading

Build early reader confidence with MY MONSTERS books, using nonsense words and cute monsters to create independent readers. Your kids will love our fully decodable book and flashcard set that gets children ready for the phonic screening. The Set Double sided flashcards focus on 1 target sound, display a nonsense word on the front, with 3 more words on the reverse. The activity cards set gives ideas for fun learning games that can be played in class or at home. Each card matches a page in the book and relates to words spoken by the monsters. The decodable phonics book targets a specific sound with the nonsense word ‘story’ allowing your children to focus on the skill of decoding, work on reading fluency, making silly voices for the monsters, and have fun. Our books are full of rhyme and play with word structure to help early readers become quickly comfortable with segmenting and blending. We include many real words so that children can understand how particular words carry meaning. Our teachers said… “Being able to send the books home with parents and then use the flashcards the next day was really great. They loved seeing the aliens from the story they had read the night before!” “The books print ready to go, so all we did was give them out at the end of the day. It was easy to target the sounds they had got wrong and we used the same books for home-packs and in class interventions.” “The kids loved the aliens and enjoyed making different voices for each one which was great as it helped them forget they were reading and enjoy the book with friends.”

Phonics Phase 3 Complete Lesson + Activities - Letter X x

(0)
This is a complete lesson teaching children how to identify, read and write the ‘x’ grapheme of phase 3 phonics. This lesson introduces the ‘x’ grapheme and the sound that it makes. It is designed to be the TWENTY-FOURTH lesson in a complete course of phase 3 lessons that build on prior learning from phase 2. In phase 3 of phonics, children learn that multiple letters (digraphs and trigraphs) can make one sound. They also meet some of the less common letters and the sounds they make. They continue to practise segmenting and blending CVC (consonant - vowel - consonant) words, CCVC and CVCC words as well as some longer, phonetically-decodable words. These lessons follow on from the phase 2 phonics lessons where the most commonly used letters and sounds are learned and children practise segmenting and blending mostly CVC (consonant - vowel - consonant) words. These lessons are designed to teach children how to read and write by practising the skills of identifying, segmenting and blending. Each lesson includes all the information, games, videos and activities needed teach each phase 3 sound. PLEASE CHECK THE NOTES SECTION ON EACH SLIDE FOR EXTRA TIPS AND IDEAS FOR TEACHING PHONICS PHASE 3. It is recommended that you teach these lessons in the following order as the lessons build on prior learning: ai air ar ch ear ee er igh j ng oa oi oo (long) oo (short) or ow qu sh th ur ure v w x y zz The presentation includes: √ Learning objective and success criteria √ Phase 3 phonics sound mat √ Review slides for phase 2 phonics √ Games, videos and activities introducing the sound √ Segmenting and blending reading activities √ Segmenting and blending writing activities PLEASE NOTE - Please look at the ‘notes’ section of the PowerPoint for additional information about each slide. These include teaching tips, ideas and further explanations. This lesson is also suitable for being delivered remotely through online learning with very few adaptations. It could combine very well with platforms such as Pear Deck and Nearpod.

I used this powerpoint and handout to tell parents about phonics in our school. Some of the information on the handout has been collected from other people's lovely resources. Hopefully it will be useful to some people.

Phonics phase 2-5 assessment

I can't remember where I found this assessment, but I liked it and so decided to make a PowerPoint for use with the children. Anything in blue is read by the teacher (or TA) and the black words have to read/blended by the children. It includes decodeable, tricky and nonsense words. It should be used in conjunction with the word document, as some parts are just oral.
