This lesson guides pupils through the GCSE synthesis question with a starter activity looking at how the synthesis question is worded. Pupils then look at an example of a synthesis response that would be awarded full marks (not linked to any text they have looked at) to work out how to set out answer. Pupils will then complete a synthesis question and peer assess their answers. There is also a lesson plan attached with the resources and the standard of the lesson was considered ‘excellent’ when observed. You will need the summer 2018 Unit 3 resource material. I ‘walked’ students through how to approach each style question, providing sentence stems where possible and modeled expectations. Students then annotated their student copy of answers and fed back. The actual marks awarded are then revealed to students and highlighted according to the skill demonstrated which meets the success criteria. Students then planned answers to the questions in exercise book as a class or independently. At the end students where given a copy of the marked model answers, and the ppt was printed and laminated for them into a ‘flip chart’ style cue card set to support with independent study
