This presentation and worksheet can be used to introduce the subjunctive in French or as a revision tool. There are links to interactive websites for consolidation. The presentation looks at how the subjunctive is formed and used using the research from an article on the qualities of an ideal president. Topical at the moment as the French elections have just been held.

This is for French. I adapted it from a Spanish booklet (which I didn't make). It has sections for predicted and unpredicted bullet points as well as 4 sample exam questions.

Updated web links! This PowerPoint can either be used as a starter or end of lesson activity every day in the countdown to the December holiday or can be used in the last week of term. This lesson increases cultural knowledge and critical thinking skills. Pupils work in teams to translate different April Fools that have appeared in the French press. A video link is included to highlight the different traditions in France. There are then instructions to make your own Poisson d'avril in French. If you do not have time, there are fish outlines in the PowerPoint document that can be printed and coloured.

This allows pupils to develop their research skills using the target language as they explore a French school's website to answer a series of questions.

This activity allows pupils to see the patterns that will help identify the gender of a noun, helping them to remember if a word is masculine or feminine.

This can be printed and photocopied as a one sheet A5 booklet. It gives info and tips to encourage pupils to be able to fill in pauses, use a broader range of vocabulary and sound a bit more French. I also have a National 5 version which I'll add to TES.

This has three key phrases for any French pirate. My pupils still remember 'Tonnerre de Brest' one year on! A few pirate related starters (colours, numbers and animals) plus French pirate colouring sheets.

This can be printed as a double-sided sheet and folded to create an A5 booklet. It encourages pupils to think about how they can increase the range of vocabulary to sound more French and to fill in pauses and gaps to give thinking time. This is a simpler version of the Higher survival guide.

This groups together French propaganda posters from WW1. Pupils use their dictionary skills along side knowledge from other subjects to decode the images. These are followed by archive photographs of the different animals used by the military during WW1. I have changed the links to similar video content which allow you to view the videos.

Using the Jacques Dutronc song 'Fais pas ci; fais pas ça' this lesson encourages pupils to practice their listening skills while leading onto discussion on parental commands and rules. There is a hyperlink on the powerpoint to the song. The word document has the complete lyrics as well as a gapfill which can be printed.

Pupils follow instructions in French to make a daffodil. They put 9 steps of her life in French in chronological order. These become petals/leaves. Pupils translate each petal/leaf into English. Uses a mix of perfect and imperfect tenses.

Pupils use a dictionary to match different vocabulary items for the pirate's clothing.

A lesson for starting back after Christmas using Linguascope vocabulary to say what gifts you gave and received.

This powerpoint covers different adjectives to describe the best and the worst teachers, including a presentation of vocabulary and activities to practise. I have added the same powerpoint but with the vocabulary in English.

Print off the QR codes and hide around school (areas where mobile devices are allowed). Pupils find and scan the codes to discover language related questions. The team with the most correct answers in the allocated time wins.

Pupils develop dictionary skills to identify each type of cuisine and 3 items of food from each country. There is then an opportunity to write, talk and listen in French. Pupils carry out a class survey and use numeracy and ICT skills to present their findings.
