Improving boys' progress

(0)
This is my way of tracking boys in our school for attendance to after school revision sessions. Those subjects that are boy heavy earn double points. Each boy is put in a team with a staff member as their coach who encourages them to go to the sessions. League tables are advertised around the school on plasma screens (including Most Valuable Player). They can get bonus points if every student is not late to school (you could probably give them red & yellow cards to take points off if you wish). A small weekly budget for the teams and prizes at the end help. Two of the positions are reserved for Pupil Premium students (so coaches know who they are).

Calculating KS3 levels

This resource allows any subject to calculate currently working at levels for students to improve consistency of reporting. I have found that when teachers calculate their own levels for students, there is naturally going to be variation with the method and weighting put on each assessment. This way, the discrepancies are taken away and the data is more robust.

Calculating KS4 grades

This spreadsheet allows GCSE teachers to calculate currently working at grades throughout the year, reducing the variation that occurs when individuals work out the grades. At the moment, it works out the grade by taking the average across the year, but if you need help doing other calculations (e.g. 60:40 splits) please let me know.

Adapted from the RaiseLibrary, this file allows you to track your students against National figures for every GCSE subject. Fill in the number of students (either in a class or cohort) on each level who are currently at each grade. The numbers tab will tell you how many students should be at each grade and colour codes accordingly. Alternatively the second Teachers tab shows as a percentage how they are performing against National. You must go to the blue tab and change the subject in the purple box too. Please let me know on Twitter (@WakelingRobert) if this was helpful!
