BTEC Planning

(24)
Hopefully this might be of use to someone. I would like to thank everyone that has ever contributed a BTEC resource to this site because without you I would have had nothing to teach for the last year. As a one woman department trying to get head around old and new spec at same time whilst redesigning new key stage 3 I would have gone mad without you all. Thought I would hopefully help some one out there in return by upping everything in my Assignment armoury. If offended anyone will remove straight away

Year 7 - Rhythm and Pulse Stomp SOW

SOW overview, power points and all necessary links for my Year 7 Term 1 SOW teaching the Elements of Music through Stomp. The whole scheme looks to build on whole class ensemble skills from the very start of the project by building up the 4 chord song introducing the elements. Lessons 3 - 7 then move to small group skills teaching Rhythm and Pulse through Stomp Music continually building on the elements throughout the project. Students design and bring in their own Stomp instruments from home so can tie in well as a recycled music project. Last year one student brought in a carrot after following a clip on You Tube. Starters all included. Power points can all be edited.

Clocks Music Tech Performance

A worksheet that I use to teach Cubase to Year 9 students. It contains a break down of all parts allowing students to sequence Clocks by Coldplay. Some of my students have used this for solo performances for the old AQA spec however it is still valid for all new specs where students can submit a music Technology performance. The sheet is fully annotated to really support students as they first get to grips with Cubase software. Students have gained 21-26/30 using this template as a guide in previous exam series so it is tried and tested with success

Composing in Ternary Form - Intro to Sequencing

The scheme follows my Instruments of the Orchestra Project which includes some notation work and performing Ode to Joy on Keyboards. This looks at the structure of the main theme and explores composing a melody in AABA form based on the structure of the Ode to Joy Melody. It explores the performance of a short melody created in AABA form, bass line and drum beat before introducing Soundation (VIP Studio) and the creation of a longer piece in Ternary Form but can grow to be Rondo Form. Students use the teachers theme as Section A and then create their own melodies for B and possible C sections if you wanted to extend to Rondo Form. It is the students first introduction to Soundation so includes adding a drum loop or creating one using seperate Kick, Snare and Hi Hat loops. Recording in a bass line and melody using a MIDI keyboard, editing and copying and pasting sections to create a longer piece. The presentation is set out on my schools powerpoint proforma but is all editable with logos removable. The only thing I have removed is the Musical Future Chair Drumming resource which I use in lesson 2. This is purchasable from their website an as a free taster resource with other purchases.

KS3 Home Learning Resources - Weekly Challenges

A challenge I set over Easter and 3 weeks worth of challenges for year 7 and 8 to do at home. Lots of links to theory games on the internet and keyboard sheets can be changed to pieces you wish. No pieces have been provided but all links to free DJ online resources and you tube listening tasks, websites are hyperlinked to the files. Tried to make it so all pupils in my school could attempt at least 1 challenge a week using phones or computers. The grid was just a useful way to collate the websites I wanted them to use. It was all shared on Google Classroom so they can upload and submit work. Please let me know if you find any of it useful. The Easter engagement task worked really well! Lots of family involvement which was nice to see. ***** Please be advised that whilst You.DJ is available in app version and suitable for ages 4+ in its description and the hotlist of songs on the main screen is amazing. You may wish to check your school policy for using the site as some songs contain explicit lyrics in some of the sub categories that students may search in.*****
