I created this short unit of work (2 weeks) for a low ability Year 9 English class. It is based around using investigation skills and thinking outside of the box. There are PowerPoint presentations and worksheets to go with each lesson. The lessons include: crime scene investigation, writing police incident reports, newspaper reports, inference skills and comprehension. There is a research based speaking and listening task looking at the case of Oscar Pistorius. Students will complete this unit by writing their own 'murder mystery' inspired story. This is a short 4 week unit of work based around the topic of Heroes and Villains. There are PowerPoint presentations and worksheets to go with individual lessons. The lessons mainly focus on creative writing, looking at character development and how stories are planned and composed. The topic also includes aspects of media as the unit ends with children creating their own Superhero movie trailer - great opportunities for Speaking+Listening! The children loved this topic. I delivered this unit to a low ability Year 7 class but would certainly work or KS2.

I have developed a unit of work focusing on Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. There are individual PowerPoints and worksheets for each lesson. The unit covers Comprehension skills, creative writing, advertisement and some basic punctuation work. There are also lessons where children can create and advertise their own chocolate which is always a fab way to end the topic! :-) Lessons are based around a mixture of reading the book and watching clips from the film. I used this unit for a low ability Year 7 class but can be used with higher KS2/lower KS3 also. This unit of work covers a 6 week half term.

19th Century Literature. This is a KS3 Frankenstein scheme of work which I have put together based on a low ability Year 9 group. There is a MTP with Powerpoints and Worksheets to go with each lesson. It is a 6 week unit of work and develops various English skills including: comprehension, inference, character development, author comparisons, analysis, creative writing and setting descriptions. The lessons are put together based on reading the book as we go along. Hope someone finds this useful as a lot of time went into it - my students loved it!

It is aimed at a low level year 9 group but would work for upper KS2/lower KS3 students. One lesson looks at character development of pirates, looking at language techniques and effects including adjectives, similes and show not tell. The other lesson looks at pirate life and requires students to write a diary extract for a day in the life of a pirate. I used this with a low ability Year 7 group but would also be great for KS2.

This is a 5 week unit of work based around the topic of 'Our World'. It includes a full Scheme of Work with PowerPoint presentations and worksheets for each lesson. It is a cross-curricular topic linking with Geography. It focuses on different cultures and countries around the world. This SOW develops comprehension skills, creative writing and advertising. Children will publish holiday/hotel leaflets, understand African fables, read for meaning and take their senses on a virtual safari inspiring their creative side. I used this SOW with a low ability Year 7 class but would be great for KS2 (Years 4, 5, 6).
