Worksheet - The student has a copy of this in front of them to help them work out where the treasure is. I suggest that you laminate them if you want to use them often! PowerPoint - This needs to be shown to the students as it contains the rhythmic codes for the teacher to play. I would suggest using this as a starter activity when teaching notation and note values. The game can be adapted to include more complex rhythms or notes on the stave. Rewards (in line with the schools merit system) could be used when the student works out the correct square that you stop the rhythms on.

Very easy to follow sheets for a group performance of the song ‘I’m Yours’ by Jason Mraz. The four chords are repeated over and over again in the song. C, G, Am and F. A useful resource for BTEC Unit 6: Working as a member of an ensemble. Sheets include lyrics, keyboard, guitar, bass and drum kit. Lesson 1 - students compile a list of products and slogans, Lesson 2 - students invent two products and slogans, Lesson 3 - Students design a poster to advertise their favourite product and slogan (Could be done as home learning), Lesson 4 - Students get into groups of 2-4 and select the best product and slogan then they compose a short pentatonic jingle to advertise their product. You could take a photograph of the poster and record the composition and have an evaluation lesson where the students watch their advert on the ITWB and hear the jingle in the background - great for peer assessment.

Performing a simple melody with the right hand only on a keyboard. Worksheet 1) A great resource that encourages students to play the keyboard and feel a sense of achievement. From experience, the students really like to play 'The Simpsons' and they tend to play this one first. I encourage the students to play EastEnders first as it is a good introduction to playing a scale of C major - then I let them play The Simpsons as a 'reward' (hee hee) Worksheet 2) A worksheet to support 'understanding graphic scores' a well known tune based on the Rugrats. The circles = short notes / The lines = longer notes. For extra work students can add the third meaning that they will start with the notes C and E - this works throughout the song. Students that are competent in using their left hand can add a bass line consisting of C, F and G. A selection of keyboard worksheets designed to engage students who require the familiarity of a song to start them off.

A simple idea - I place one of these on the class room door so that the students think a little bit more about what they have learnt during the music lesson. When it has been on the door for too long and starts to look like wall paper I change the picture or the quote. This is easy to do and I have submitted this resource in word format so that you can do the same. This idea can be adapted and used for all subjects to reinforce the plenary of the lesson. A simple questionnaire to be used to gather student voice. This resource can be adapted for other subjects very easily. Based on the Ofsted student questionnaire from many years ago it is still a great way of collecting student views and using them to inform future planning.
