The project is designed to be completed using a DAW in this instance, BandLab but could be easily adapated to whichever programme you use. This scheme of work introduces students to the orchestra, its 4 families, layout and the role of the conductor. It is done through the theme of Harry Potter. Students will be 'sorted' into a house (ability based) and will work towards a whole class orchestra style performance of Hedwig's Theme. This unit is aimed at Year 7 students but could be adapted for older year groups. Includes a 7-week lesson plan and a pupil workbooklet which includes written and listening activities along with the sheet music for their performance.

This is a set of 6 lessons to support the delivery of the professional skills for component 2 of the new BTEC music tech award. The resource includes lesson powerpoints, activities and a student template to fill in for each lesson: Lesson 1: Skills audit / time management Includes an overview of the importance of these skills, a skills audit and student challenge to prepare a solo performance which helps them work on a weakness in their audit. Lesson 2: Practice logs Students can complete a log of their rehearsal time in preparation for the performance. Lesson 3: Working with others Sets students the challenge of creating a group performance alongside looking at various scenarios and how they would approach them in the industry. Lesson 4: Sharing work Identifying the different methods artists use to share work alongside the pros and cons of each. Students also complete an activity focused around how to leave useful and professional comments. Students also complete a SWOT analysis on one music streaming platform. Lesson 5: Health and Safety Students look at the potential hazards as a performer, composer, producer and assess their own working spaces. Students will complete an analysis task looking at various images of performance/recording spaces and identify hazards. Students will also look at risk assessments and complete their own for a set scenario. Lesson 6: Finding Resources An online treasure hunt task for students to find a selection of resources.

The project focuses on features of pop music and then goes in depth into learning a performance of Stand By Me where students focus on learning the chord sequence, bass line and vocals. The project then moves onto looking at students composing their own short pop style song looking at writing lyrics, chord sequences and hooks. The powerpoints include starter activities, practical tasks and reflection tasks at 2 assessment points. The student booklet is in Microsoft publisher format.

This resource is a Keyboard Skills project, aimed at year 7 students. There is a booklet of 12 ‘keyboard workcards’ which increase in difficulty. Students begin by learning workcard 1 which has 5-finger melodies which gradually develops into reading more challenging rhythms, sharps and flats and C/G major chord. Students work through each card before performing it to the teacher before being allowed to progress onto the next card. The resource also includes ‘skill builders’ which can be used at the start of each lesson and require the whole class to focus on a particular skill and perform it all together . These include reading/playing rhythms correctly, playing sharp and flat notes and chord sequences. The resource has a student booklet (please note this is in Microsoft Publisher and PDF format) and a set of PowerPoints for each lesson.
