The students will learn about force as a push or pull on an object which can cause an object to accelerate, slow down, remain in place, change direction and/or shape. They will explore the concepts of force and the effects of force on objects they encounter as they investigate Newton’s Laws of Motion through hands on experiences and experiments including sport equipment, paper helicopters, parachutes and straw rockets. The students will also investigate how everyday materials can be physically changed and combined for particular purposes.

Set of 7 posters: Draw a Picture of Diagram Use a Number Sentence Act Out the Problem Make a Table Find a Pattern Guess and Check Use Tally Marks PDF and Word Doc version provided. Teach the children how to use each strategy. Once they have a good understanding of each, provide problems and students select the best strategy that will help them solve that problem. Teaching children to work mathematically. Incorporate this into your warm ups before the maths lesson each day. The students in my class love problem solving time! Their confidence has increased dramatically.

The score motivates the students to improve each time. Great warm up/counting activities before the maths lesson. Great way to report to parents and show students strengths and weaknesses.
