This game has been designed to get children to think about what they need to create and sustain a settlement. It is my first attempt to may need some tweaking for your class, but the kids seem to enjoy it. If you print out the map with grid lines on the kids can see where to build.

Introduction to River Basins. Have the children come up with things that they think will effect the water moving from clouds to the river. Explain to them that many things will affect how water gets to a river and that all of these are found within the river basin. At the end Higher level learners can continue with Gradient and learn the formula for Gradient.
