Written for OCR but quite generic in content Q loop needs cutting up/laminating if you want to keep reusing. Can give students 1 or more cards each depending on numbers. I use this as a form of competition (starter or plenary for a few lessons and time them to see if they can improve on their time). Also refrain from correcting mistakes after a couple of attemots to allow the group to correct each other. Puzzle contains answers on third sheet.

This is for Year 1 A level or Year 2 revision for the Cell organisation of the OCR A level Biology course. You will need to download the free Formulator Tarsia software to access this resource but is a free download. Tarsia puzzles are great for group work and discussion and this one takes somewhere between 15 and 30 minutes for most students to complete. The ‘Red herring’ words that go around the outside of the puzzle are all to do with mitosis/meiosis

You need to download the Tarsia software (free) but these puzzles really challenge the students’ understanding of the knowledge section of the spec. THe words around the outside of the puzzle are either ways of discovering/developing new medicines or different types of immunity. This typically takes students between 20 and 40 minutes to complete - group work and discussion works well
