Angry birds multiplication game board, rules and player tokens. Currently set to work on x3 x4 x6 and x10 tables but can be edited & adapted to suit any objective or age group.
This is a two-week (could be stretched to 3 weeks) narrative unit based on the short film Francis (as seen on Literacy Shed). I used the transcript of the film as I didn't feel my class were ready to watch the video. We analysed examples of 'spooky' stories, explored the features, performed 'Francis' to our Year 6 class, and then the children wrote their own suspense stories to go in a 'Restricted Section' of the library.
This is a brilliant unit, loved by all of the children and a pleasure to teach! You don't need to buy any resources - you'll need some torches (raid the Science cupboard), a notebook, and some black backing paper and metallic pens to make your working wall look great. We went on to study 'The Watertower' afterwards - just a recommendation if anyone (like me) finds that they don't want the unit to end!
My first completed story for children. Can be used in PSHE, literacy or just as a class read. A story with a message - 'good to be me&'!
Written & illustrated by S Daunt, copyright 2012.
Stories in familiar settings unit plan (3 weeks) - using 'The Dragon Machine&' book. Uses talk for writing strategies, and &';innovates' with &'The Elf Machine&'; as it was around Christmas. Could be adapted to anything though - goblins, fairies, shadows etc. Resources needed are also attached.
Year 3 music plan - half-term unit, called 'Rhythm and layers&'. Pretty self-explanatory, and ends with chn composing a piece based on &';Trashing the camp' from Tarzan. Second half of our &'Under the Sea&'; topic. Covers KS2 objectives so can be used in any year group.
MTP - topic was 'Theatre', science covered 'Light and Shadows'. Includes teaching of aspects of light, and shadow puppet theatre project. Resources also uploaded.
Year 3 music plan - half-term unit called 'Mood and Movies&'. Works on creating a musical mood & looking at soundtracks. Covers KS2 music objectives so could be used in any year group. Part of our &';Under the Sea' topic.
Used as part of a unit on 'Light and Shadows', where chn made their own shadow puppet theatres. This was the play they were to perform, and so had to theme their theatre to match the story, and create the puppets necessary. (Good because there aren't too many puppets! Chn enjoyed creating silhouettes of different types of houses).
12 Scattegories lists to print, ready to use.
If you don't know the game - you pick a list, pick a letter (I use random name generators online to pick one at random) & give the kids a time limit to think of words to fit the categories beginning with that letter. Then, they compare words - if 2 or more people have the same word, they don&'t get the point. Point for each word, total at the end.
I found that the lists in the actual game were too hard for children so created these. (I love playing it myself!)
Here is the text from the story 'The Egg&' - please use this to preview the story to judge whether it&';s fit for use, but definitely buy the book - it's fantastic! There is also a list of teaching ideas for use with this book.
This is a two-page resource for children to plan their own newspaper report. On the first page, the success criteria are in a 'slow writing' style, with examples in the third column to help children.
The second page has the simple 'boxing up' planning structure.
The stimulus for the lesson was a video (FX Guru) of a T-rex on the playground. I also filmed the site manager and our head teacher giving their accounts. It was a great lesson as the children were engaged and the structure of the plan and success criteria meant the writing was of a high quality.
