100 Year 6 KS2 mini SATs papers in one PDF: 5 questions each on maths, SPaG, reading and spelling, 2,000 in all, with answers. Free PDF.
This 300-page A4 PDF holds all 100 mini SATs papers: 200 pages of papers, then 100 answer pages, one per paper. What is a mini SATs paper? It is a short, mixed practice paper that samples every part of the Year 6 SATs in about 20 minutes, rather than practising one test at a time. Doing a little of everything, often, keeps every skill ticking over and shows quickly which areas need more teaching.
Each paper is one double-sided A4 sheet. Side 1 has five maths questions, one each on arithmetic, number, fractions, measures, and geometry or statistics, every one with a squared working area and diagrams where needed, followed by five grammar, punctuation and spelling questions in the formats children meet in the SATs: circling or underlining words, ticking the correct answer, adding punctuation and completing tick-box grids. Side 2 has a short reading text with five questions (retrieval, inference, vocabulary and a true-or-false table) and five spellings, each a missing word in a sentence for an adult to read aloud.
The 100 reading texts are 40 non-fiction texts, 30 stories, 15 poems and 15 biographies, ranging from science and history to adventure stories, poems and the lives of famous people. Each comes with five questions covering retrieval, inference and vocabulary, plus a true-or-false table.
Across the 100 papers there are 500 maths questions, 500 grammar, punctuation and spelling questions, 500 reading questions and 500 spelling words, and none of them repeats. The maths rotates through dozens of question types, from long multiplication and fraction calculations to reading scales, missing angles, coordinates and charts, so children meet the full range of the curriculum rather than the same few skills.
How it links to the SATs: in May, Year 6 pupils sit an arithmetic paper and two reasoning papers in maths, a grammar, punctuation and spelling questions paper, a 20-word spelling test and an hour-long reading paper. Every one of those is represented on each mini paper, so children practise switching between question types, just as the real tests demand.
How to use them: with 100 papers there is enough for one every school day from January until the SATs in May. Give one paper a day as a morning task or lesson starter, then mark it together using the answer page. Children can record their score out of 20 on the paper and look for patterns over a week. They also work well for homework, booster groups, tutoring and assessment for learning before a unit.
The answer pages are at the back, one per paper. They give every answer, short working for the maths, the punctuation to add shown in bold, and the spelling words with their sentences, so an adult can read each word, the sentence, then the word again, as in the SATs spelling test.
