Pupils start off with an early Triassic mammal and select a series of adaptations from a list of possible evolutionary paths. Once they have selected 5 adaptations they encounter various scenarios where the adaptations they have selected will either gain or lose them points.
Discussions can arise as to why certain adaptations might be useful/detrimental in certain conditions can arise. Pupils can expand on this exercise by creating alternate scenarios for a given habitat.
Also good for numeracy in lower sets.

The second edition features a random path generator. Using a die the class can randomly select what events occur and see how they effect the mammals success. Repeating the game should help pupils identify that different environmental effects guide the evolutionary process depending on how successful the organism is in a particular environment.

Searched for and downloaded this resource again as it was so popular with my Y6 class a few years ago. (In fact my TA whose daughter was in my class back then reminded me about this activity when we started our adaptation topic this time round, apparently her daughter still talks about it) A fantastic resource which really engages all pupils.

Awesome resource - I have used it for KS2 through to KS4! Can be simplified or bits skipped and still works.
