Used from Reception to Year 2 to stimulate adjectives.
In Year 2 we have turned the mindmapping into a game. Where the children are in small groups; objects are at one end of the room and a large sheet of paper (and the group) at the other end. The children take it in turns to run up to; investigate the items (feel, sniff, observe, ...); The groups have a set amount of time to do this (depends on the number of objects you have collected together). Then we have about 3 minutes for them to think of any additional words together.
I set this task after my class had spent the half term reading poetry and analysing the devices used by poets. It gave the students a chance to use the devices they had been learning about in their own poems. I set it as a half term hwk but it could be a task set in lesson time.
A rainforest / jungle poem with a repeating pattern which children can recite and add actions to. In my Y1 class we have shared written extra lines for I saw.. I heard.... I felt etc. then children have written their own and we have added them to the main text. This works well as the children's lines don&'t need to rhyme and you can add as many as you like.
Set of resources used in the year 4 topic of creating images with poetry, similes and metaphors.
A great idea is for the children to describe a beach using similes and metaphors.
Includes homework ideas, display material and many worksheets around the topic! Enjoy!
Due to the popularity of this resource I have included a Powerpoint I used for a very successful observation lesson by Ofsted.
Also a bank of poems that I developed using Similes and Metaphors in them to create images and a few more resources too including a soothing soundtrack and background to play on your IW on loop. I have recently added even more poems and simile / metaphor references for this resource!
AUGUST UPDATE: Even more resources added and price reduction to celebrate over 100 downloads of this resource.
