This download contains 80 cards (60 words and 20 images) on biological molecules for A-level Biology.

Cards include:

  • different carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, nucleic acids.
  • water, ATP, ADP.
  • different bonds.
  • elements that make up biological molecules.
  • images showing the structure and bonds.

Also included are instructions for use with 11 ideas for using the cards (in case this is being used for cover work, I’ve included labels for each of the image cards on the last page of the teacher instructions). My suggestion would be to split the class into pairs or groups and plan a series of different rounds of increasing difficulty. Prize for winning group optional!

Ideal as a first lesson back for Year 13 to get their brains in gear after the summer, or a simplified version could be played with new Year 12s to test who completed their GCSE to A-level transition work :)

If printing is an issue at your school, I’ve also included an A4 PDF document with all of the words on, which could you display on the board and students could answer questions verbally or write down their answers in groups. Or, I’ve included a PowerPoint with the same word list on - students could copy and paste the words onto different slides where you have set different questions/categories for them to match the cards to (I’ve included a couple of these slides as an example).
