This simple activity sheet invites children to express preferences by drawing the things they like and the things they don’t like.
How it develops oracy:
As children mark their choices, adults are encouraged to sit alongside and model language through commentary - noticing, naming and valuing children’s decisions in the moment. This supports children to hear and gradually use language linked to preference, thinking and reasoning (e.g. like, choose, different), without pressure to perform or answer lots of questions.
The activity also supports non-verbal communication, confidence and shared attention, making it particularly effective for quieter children and EAL learners.
