KS1 coin recognition flash cards for Reception or Y1. Covers 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p and 20p with Numicon, Dienes and real coin images.

The front of each card shows a large, detailed image of the coin’s reverse design; the back shows the value in digits and words, alongside Numicon and Dienes representations to connect coin values to number sense already being developed in maths lessons.

Works for whole-class teaching, small group work, or as an independent activity. Print double-sided (flip on short edge) and cut out.

Note: both the pre-2008 and post-2008 reverse designs of British coins remain in circulation, so pupils may encounter slightly different-looking versions of some coins in real life. This can itself be a useful talking point.

Supports the KS1 Mathematics curriculum (recognising and knowing the value of different denominations of coins).
