The Cosmic Ray Telescope for the Effects of Radiation, or CRaTER, is a shoebox-sized instrument on the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. LRO is a NASA spacecraft that has been circling the moon since June 2009. The purpose of CRaTER is to detect cosmic rays that can be harmful to an astronaut's body.
