Socratic (or Harkness) lesson structures can be an incredibly powerful tool for allowing students to develop their understanding and independence,When used effectively, it can be an incredibly useful tool for:
-Checking student understanding of a topic, idea, or text.
-Encouraging students to develop their ZPD and metacognitive skills.
-Allowing students to develop their speaking and listening skills and their powers of debate.
This guide is in the context of English, but can be adapted for any subject.
