This is one of the very first lesson I teach to my Year 10 Engineers when they first start the course.

It typically takes 2 lessons and I give them randomly sized stock pieces, each with a random sized hole drilled in a different location. Their task is to take accurate measurements using the callipers.

I usually run this as a group task and it is a good starting point as most of them have never had to read accurate measurements before.
