The first week of a SoW which has students studying short stories and ultimately writing their own. These lessons focus on narrative structure, introducing students to Kurt Vonnegut's ideas about story shapes and his principles for story writing, before pupils study short stories (and very short stories) by Lydia Davis. See subsequent weeks for more lessons on short stories. Used for Year 9, but could be adapted for other years.
