A full lesson (no images included) with extract from the opening of Great Expectations.
Targeted at KS3 c.19th fiction preparation for GCSE but could also be used for 11+ and improving comprehension. It could also be turned into a standalone lesson quite easily.
Brief rundown of the lesson:
Starter - analyse a key quotation from the extract.
Discuss key vocabulary.
Read extract and contextualise vocabulary.
Discuss and answer comprehension questions on setting and character.
Work on a ‘Big question’. This is in end of year exam style so helps to practise for this. Could be set as an extension, worked through as a class or given as homework depending on the level of support needed by the students.
