This lesson is part of a unit of work on slavery for Y8 but can be used with any KS3 year group. In terms of lesson sequencing, this lesson follows a lesson on abolition.

It’s planned for a double lesson, but can be split into 2 separate single lessons.

Part 1 - looking at African Empires and Kingdoms and how these disprove the ideas white people used to enslave Africans.

Part 2 - looking at the legacy of slavery in Africa and the Benin Bronzes debate.
