This comprehensive bundle provides three complete, ready-to-use unit planners covering the entire Topic 1: Foundation. Designed for a combined SL/HL classroom in Year 1, Term 1, Weeks 1–4.
What’s Inside?
Unit 1.1 – Perspectives (Week 1, 8–10 hours)
5 Activities: Personal reflection, organisational text analysis, EVS diagram construction, spectrum exercise, movement timeline.
AoS Mini-Project: Survey design (Likert-scale, sample justification, Spearman’s rank/chi-squared, pilot).
Assessment: Formative (reflection, EVS diagram, exit tickets, survey draft) + Summative (35-min test).
Unit 1.2 – Systems (Week 2, 8–10 hours)
Activities: Systems diagram construction, ecosystem mapping, open/closed classification, Daisyworld feedback loops, eutrophication case study, model evaluation, resilience demonstration.
Assessment: Formative (diagrams, exit tickets) + Summative (40-min test).
Unit 1.3 – Sustainability (Weeks 3–4, 14 hours)
Activities: Strong/weak sustainability diagrams, three pillars scenarios, GDP vs Green GDP, environmental injustice research, footprint calculation (AoS), footprint vs biocapacity, citizen science, four-framework jigsaw.
Assessment: Formative (diagrams, footprint reflection, exit tickets) + Summative (45-min test).
Bundle Features
Common Misconceptions (IB Examiner Reports):
Perspective ≠ opinion (structured framework with traceable inputs)
Negative feedback ≠ bad; positive feedback ≠ good (mathematical direction)
Sustainability ≠ just environmentalism (three interdependent pillars)
Low ecological footprint ≠ sustainable (may reflect poverty)
Frameworks are complementary, not competing
Cross-Curricular:
TOK: Evidence for perspectives, values vs knowledge, models/simplification, environmental justice as ethics/science
CAS: Campaign design, sustainability audit, community survey, citizen science
ATL Skills: Thinking (metacognitive, systems, evaluative), Social (collaboration), Communication (ESS vocabulary, essay structure), Research (sourcing), Self-management (multi-step projects)
Mathematics & Technology: Likert scoring, Spearman’s rank, chi-squared, footprint ratios, behaviour-time graphs, spreadsheets, online calculators, GIS, citizen science platforms
Differentiation: Affirming diverse perspectives; scaffolding (templates, sentence starters, visual/bilingual glossaries); extending (peer-reviewed studies, planetary boundaries update)
