The aim of this activity is to provide an opportunity to observe and map main features of a map. Maps enhance understanding of place. In this case the first impression of Horseshoe Junction is that it is a place with little to offer. The provision of a local map broadens understanding and indicates that first impressions are not always based on knowledge. The map becomes an important part of gaining this broader knowledge. Map labelling is important and students have the opportunity to label their map. The labelling can be completed on screen because the labels provided can be moved. If you want to provide hard copies for students to have a black and white attachment of the map is provided. Suggested extension activities are included on screen 5. The final screen provides a copy of a completed map. There will be some flexibility in the completed maps students provide.
