A lesson plan and activity sheets based around working in a pharmacy. It is designed to introduce students to the important of medication safety, daily routines and roles in a pharmacy. It also supports practicing basic numeracy and maths in practice.
A pharmacy (also known as a chemist) is a healthcare setting that provides medicines and other health services, including dispensing prescriptions, advising patients on drug use, offering vaccinations, and performing health screenings. Pharmacies are part of the UK’s primary care system, offering accessible health support on the high street and within supermarkets, focusing on the safe and effective use of medications and broader public health advice.
In this lesson, students are given a ‘prescription’ for a TV character and they need to complete a blister pack for the patient based on what they need per day.
A blister pack is a pre-packed dose packaging that a pharmacy will produce for a patient. They will contain all the medication a patient will need to take at each time of the day. They are used to support patients who need additional help to stay organised with their medication, patients who take many different medications or helps those with dexterity issues reduce the number of tablets they need to pop out.
