This is a powerpoint about Moon Buggies to accompany a space topic. It discusses the surface of the moon and how to describe it then the children must decide what kind of vehicle would be suitable for travel on the moon. There are picture examples of moon buggies and then the children must complete a task to make a moon buggy. We made buggies from K'nex and tested it on a playdough moon surface!

I really can see how well the children could achieve a believable design using this resource. I am going to try this over the next two weeks.

I've been doing a similar project for a number of years and I have a mod-rock lunar landscape. The children are challenged to design a buggy to cross the landscape. They all make a basic buggy (which has been designed to fail) and then they have to adapt this in various ways. here are some of their solutions: 4 or even 6 wheel drive, big chunky drive wheels, high ground clearance, gearing down and even a 3 wheeler. This powerpoint should help them focus in even more on the possible adaptations required to be successful.

Nice presentation that I can see going down well with pupils at KS2. Love the K'nex/Moonsurface idea - do you have any pictures? Thanks for sharing.
