In this activity, students will examine how the Catholic Church rose to prominence during the early Middle Ages by providing stability, spreading Christianity, and accumulating religious, economic, and political power across Europe. They will explore the Church’s internal hierarchy, its core beliefs, the role of monasteries in preserving knowledge and supporting communities, and the ways in which Church leaders involved themselves in the political and financial affairs of medieval European society.

It has 9 questions for students to answer, as well as a paragraph response section for them to demonstrate their understanding of the topic.
