It’s Okay Not to Be Okay

A 15–20 Minute Mental Health Assembly for KS3 & KS4

Tagline: It’s okay not to be okay.

This 15–20 minute assembly is designed for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students and focuses on promoting positive mental health, reducing stigma, and encouraging students to seek and offer support.

The assembly explores the idea that everyone has mental health, just as everyone has physical health. It helps students understand that mental health can change from day to day, week to week, and during different life experiences — and that this is a normal part of being human.

Using age-appropriate language and relatable examples, the assembly aims to create a safe and supportive atmosphere where students feel reassured that it is okay to struggle and that help is available.

Key Themes Covered

  1. Everyone Has Mental Health

Mental health exists on a spectrum and can fluctuate. We all experience ups and downs. There is no “normal” way to feel all the time.
  2. It’s Okay Not to Be Okay

Struggling does not mean weakness. Talking about mental health reduces stigma. Seeking help is a sign of strength.
  3. Supporting Each Other

How to recognise when a friend might be struggling. Simple ways to check in with others. The importance of listening without judgement.
