A 10 question test on Direct and inverse proportion, comprising: 5 questions on procedural calculations; 3 questions on reasoning and communicating mathematically; and 2 problem solving questions. At the end of the test there is an extension activity which will allow more able students to stretch themselves. This resource is ideal for either formative or summative assessment and can be used in lesson time as a topic assessment, starter or plenary activity or for homework or revision.

Topics include:
Solve simple problems involving quantities in direct proportion including algebraic proportions.
e.g. using equality of ratios, currency conversion problems.
Solve more formal problems involving quantities in direct proportion (i.e. using proportionality notation).
Recognise that if y = kx, where k is a constant, then y is proportional to x.
Solve simple word problems involving quantities in inverse proportion or simple algebraic proportions.
e.g. speed–time contexts (if speed is doubled, time is halved).
Solve more formal problems involving quantities in inverse proportion (i.e. using proportionality notation).
Recognise that if y = k/x, where k is a constant, then y is inversely proportional to x.
