A worksheet for fairly advanced KS4 students, or KS5 students, on some of the experimental work which has been done on phototropism, starting with Darwin and Darwin in 1880. It aims to highlight the way creative thinking and cunning experiment design can help science progress, while at the same time introducing the idea of plant hormones, or auxins. I hope it’s not over-simplified (I am a physicist…)

I think this is an excellent resource. It allows students to actively explore plant hormones using historical research. Although it is not a lab, it definitely promotes inquiry. My students found it quite engaging. It paired very well with a hands-on plant tissue culture lab. There are a small number of relatively unimportant grammatical typos.
