Today more than ever, children need diverse, inclusive, and inspiring books. This collection of twelve stories cover various PSHE themes but all feature black characters in the forefront - boys, girls, and some historical figures. I’m currently teaching at a Scottish affiliated International School in China so getting books ordered can be a challenge and accessing YouTube also an issue. I made this resource to side-step those difficulties. The read aloud stories are embedded but are all freely available on Youtube, and then I added some discussion questions to accompany each book. Not a replacement for physical texts by any stretch but hopefully a starting point to engage students, and easy to use for teachers. The resource could be used for whole-class story-time, or for students to work through in small groups, or as a way for students to access these texts for home learning. Ultimately, I hope it will lead to some rich discussion and fruitful conversations with your students.
