A complete UKS2 lesson for Y5/Y6 on advertising and persuasion from Tykeoons’ MoneySmarts. Active learning throughout, differentiated for all abilities.

Pupils learn to decode the techniques advertisers use to influence spending decisions through the lesson’s central framework: the six persuasion levers (social proof, endorsement, appeal to identity, scarcity and urgency, sweeteners, and selling the dream). They then put these to use themselves, writing their own 40-word ad for a fictional product. A paired advert analysis activity and the “Critical Consumer Checklist” round out a lesson that gives pupils practical tools for evaluating commercial persuasion in everyday life. Works as a standalone lesson or as part of the full MoneySmarts 9-11 series.

Suitable for PSHE and financial education, with strong links to media literacy, critical thinking and English (persuasive writing).
