About the full resource pack:
MAGPI Writing Framework Complete Lesson Pack: How to Transform or Upgrade Descriptive Writing
A plug and play lesson pack that can deliver visible writing progress in under 50 minutes.
Ready-to-teach | Ofsted-aligned | Ideal for KS3–KS4 English
This resource helps improve your students’ creative writing using the MAGPI Writing Framework. This framework is a powerful, easy-to-remember technique that helps learners transform basic writing into rich, sensory, and impactful text.
A “before and after” worked example is used to model how to upgrade writing in five clear steps:
M - Metaphor & Simile (build deeper comparisons and insight)
A - Adjectives & Adverbs (sharpen and refine description)
G - Grammar & Sentence Variety (control rhythm and tone)
P - Punctuation for Impact (use punctuation for emphasis and flow)
I - Imagery & Sensory Detail (immerse the reader’s senses)
What’s included in this resource pack?
• A complete worked example (before & after). This allows you and your students to see visible writing progress
• Teacher notes and annotations for guided analysis
• A printable MAGPI checklist for self- and peer-assessment
• A complete plug-and-play (yet adaptable) lesson slide deck that includes the lesson objective and success criteria mapped to Ofsted’s EIF (Intent, Implementation, Impact)

• KS3 and KS4 creative/descriptive writing lessons
• Modelling writing improvement in English or literacy sessions
• Whole-school literacy initiatives or display use
About me
I created this GCSE English support resource and the MAGPI technique (or framework) as part of my Postgraduate Study in Education. Each resource in my shop has been written by me. I am a teacher and examiner and have created them using research (and personal classroom practice) informed methods. I have found that these methods work well and decided to share them with other educators.
The project is fairly new, but you can visit my page on Substack: https://theexamshelf.substack.com/
I hope you find my resources useful, please leave feedback if you do!
