Powerpoint slides guide students through the following lesson objectives:

  • Observe and analyse a video clip
  • Identify items essential to survival
  • Analyse items through discussion
  • Respond to a text on the topic of ‘survival’
  • Create a ‘survival guide’

This lesson creates opportunities for discussion to:
1.1.1 Make relevant and extended contributions to discussions
1.1.1 Allowe for others’ input
1.1.1 Respond to others’ input
1.1.2 Prepare for discussion on familiar/unfamiliar topic
1.1.2 Prepare for and contribute to informal/formal discussion of ideas and opinions
1.1.3 Make different kinds of contributions
1.1.4 Present information/points of view clearly
1.1.4 Presented information/points of view in appropriate language.

Students will read and respond to an extended non fiction text, answering comprehension questions and stretching and challenging themselves to explore language techniques and presentation features.

Using knowledge gained during this session, and with a focus on SPAG, students will then write their own survival guide.
