Absolutely AMAZING!!! I am planning teaching a unit on writing ghost stories to my Year 4 class and this set of resources is sublime. Thank you for saving me hours and hours of work. You. Are. Wonderful.
This is a whopping 95 page word doc. containing all 30 of my grammar games. This represents a fair few evenings and weekends (I know - get a life!). All of these games have been tested in class and adjusted if needed - they have a real impact on learning.
For each grammar skill there is:
a child friendly explanation of the grammar concept; printable rules and resources for a lively dice game; suggestions to challenge or support learners; suggestions for application of the skill in written work.
For some grammar games there is also a lesson plan and a presentation.
Here are some of the skills covered:
commands, questions and statements/ simple and compound sentences/ adverbs/ proper nouns/ classifying nouns/ contractions/ pronouns/ prepositions/prepositional phrases/ apostrophes/ adjectives/ sentence variety/ parentheses/semi-colons/ discussion/ persuasion/ complex sentences / causal connectives/ fronted adverbials/ speech/ relative clauses/ modal verbs
Revision tool which regenerates new questions and self marks! For use on pupil shared areas, all questions modeled on past SATs.
Great alternative to use alongside practice papers, all answers will turn green when correct giving immediate feedback, hence also saves on printing/photocopying and marking.
This can also be put on as many machines as you like, once downloaded put on your school network for pupils to work on-screen (no complex installation just copy to the shared area) and generate a new set of questions with one click! (Just click 'calculate now' and a new set will be generated each time.) This will also be good practice for the use of on-screen tests.
Differentiated! - There is a support page, middle ability page and an extension page. On the last page are corresponding target lists which can be used for self assessment, tracking or to focus intervention.
Great for revising multiple topics whilst improving fluency and mental maths skills, and also includes a times tables booster!
(NB: Requires Microsoft Excel- Please read the instructions!!- check in settings that automatic calculations are switched off- just click formulas- calculation options- tick manual) (read only version to prevent pupils from saving any changes, just select yes when opening)
*** please message me via TES community if you have any questions regarding technical settings***
A pack of 5 revision worksheets - Each one containing 46 different past paper SATs style questions, all fitted onto one double sided A4 sheet
Great for keeping photocopying down whilst practising loads of past questions! There is a record sheet (including key skills) for each pupil to record their score after each attempt and try to beat it the next time! Each worksheet has similar questions & key skills but with new numbers each time in order for pupils to build confidence, fluency, and consolidate their learning.
Answers for all questions are provided (as pdf and ppt) - each on a single page which can be projected onto IWB in one go or printed out on a single sheet to allow for self/peer marking.
Could be done in class with support or at home for revision - Ideal for some intensive last minute SATs preparation. (PDF files)
Aimed at children in Years 5, 6 and 7.
The PowerPoint takes the children through the first verse of the poem ‘Jabberwocky’ by Lewis Carroll and gives them a strategy for turning this nonsensical poem into one that makes sense - almost! The children have practice in recognising nouns, adjectives and verbs and in using the dictionary to find suitable replacement words.
The Teachers’ Notes gives background information to the creation of the poem and in particular, Lewis Carroll’s use of ‘portmanteau words’. They also have a number of suggestions for further activities.
There is a document with the text of the poem plus another where Humpty Dumpty explains the first verse of the poem to Alice. According to him, he can - “… explain all the poems that ever were invented - and a good many that haven't been invented just yet.”
If you enjoy this resource then please tell your colleagues and maybe leave us a review. Many thanks.
All the money raised from the sale of this resource goes to a local charity for children called MedEquip4Kids.

It is so important for students to see, read and become familiar with the standards they are learning. I display the standard we are working on each day on my white board. I print out all of the standards at the beginning of the year (and laminate them!). I then sort them by strand and hole punch each one.
