Hello,
I hope that this commentary on the Nun’s Priest’s Tale may work in several ways. It’s for A level and university students. There is the outline of the story given in the subtitles. I have made a line-by-line translation, and explained the large number of allusions to books, writers and other matters that we now probably know nothing about. Because life and beliefs were so different six hundred years ago, I have included a lot of context. The tale is capable of several different interpretations and so I have added a great many critics’ views – to the extent that it may read like a ragbag of critical ideas. But these critics are experts, so it seems only sensible to listen to their ideas. The great thing about reading a digital commentary is that you can quickly scroll down all the parts that don’t interest you.
