I do this over 2 lessons starting with High Grow task first . I give them a choice of soils, cotton wool, plastic bags and where to leave the dishes. The chemistry task - I give a boiling tube of acid + UI, a boiling tube of alkali + UI and 4 test tubes. The physics/engineering task - don't allow students to screw the paper in to balls. I discuss the science involved after each task. There are a few questions related to the tasks at the end.
