The following task provided an opportunity for my VCAL Literacy students to meet the outcome requirements for reading, writing and speaking for practical purposes. While some of the tasks are specific to the project that we were working on, the core activity was to build a piece of IKEA furniture - that is follow illustrated instructions - and then write text to accompany the illustrations. This task was very successful and I will certainly be repeating it this year using another IKEA product and linking the task to an integrated project.
