Young Cotswold Way Explorers Pack, is a brand-new resource which is free to download from our website here: https://www.cotswoldsaonb.org.uk/looking-after/education-learning/

The resource has been designed to cover Lower KS2 Science – Plants, living things and their habitats, within a woodland setting. It is also a great resource for home educators and other groups who work with children aged 7-9years.

The pack covers numerous other areas of the curriculum including arts, literacy and geography. As well as the non-statutory advice which states that ‘Pupils should use the local environment throughout the year to observe how different plants grow’ (YR3) and ‘Pupils should use the local environment throughout the year to raise and answer questions that help them to identify and study plants and animals in their habitat. They should identify how the habitat changes throughout the year’ (YR4).

To enable teachers to use this with ease, the pack includes lesson plans, resources, kit lists, a risk register and map of places where you could take a class to complete their learning in woodlands along or near the Cotswold Way. **However, the lessons can be completed in any woodland anywhere in the country! **

The lessons have been tested with local primary schools and feedback has been gathered from teachers to shape the pack contents.

The idea is that educators can use the resource for a self-led set of trips locally. If you are within the Cotswolds we can also support visits with our voluntary Cotswold wardens. For more information email nicole.daw@cotswolds-nl.org.uk
