After the government set out the 2016 exemplification materials for writing, like many year 5/6 teachers I panicked slightly!
I have produced some short units of work which work around the above age related exemplification materials set out by the government. This is my 4th unit of work and is based around Newspaper Reports.
Firstly children look at the effectiveness of different newspaper reports, and the children learn to write their own. Children learn how to use colons and semi colons to mark different clauses in their writing..They then write a newspaper report about a snake escape which is a free interactive resources created by TES or its Iboard (http://www.iboard.co.uk/iwb/Journalist-Desk-Snake-Escape-524).
The snake escape interactive resources produced on Iboard is excellent!! The children really engage with it and really enjoyed this unit! I've used this amazing resource and created planning to fit my mixed year 5/6 group.
The pieces of writing they produced were excellent! All of my children hit the standard of children writing at the expected standard.
In this pack I have included the medium term plan which is 13 days planning which is differentiated into 3 groups! 11 Powerpoints with learning objectives and resources. Some worksheets/activities, success criteria for each of my groups and planning frames.
Planning and full resources for this unit of work.
Some of the resources have been gathered from other places...many my own. The success crtiries were put on under seperate measure a while ago but while I have referred to them in this planning - I thought I would include them within this section also.
Hope it is of some use.
PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK :D
Children loved making pizzas at our Italian pizza class. Resources have been exported from an Activ-primary flip-chart. (Which also includes Italian Pizzeria style music.) Fun to play when the children are making their pizzas or working. If you would like original please message me.

These ‘Library Challenge’ cards were made for my class library, but they could be used in a school library as well. The idea was just to get the children excited about reading and properly engaged with the books, and they’ve really enjoyed working through the activities – an added bonus being that I use this work to decorate the walls of our library.
There’s a selection of 10 Library Challenge Cards, plus a ‘Library Challenge of the Week’ which just allows for changing things up a little without having to print and laminate more cards.
Three differentiated worksheets, suitable for Year 1 & 2 pupils.
1 - Storyboard sheet with pictures and lines underneath for able writers to write each part of the story.
2 - Storyboard sheet with pictures and parts of the story with gaps for pupils to fill in.
3 - Complete storyboard in the wrong order for less able pupils to cut out and sequence.
Line drawings of Wallace & Gromit's Cracking Contraptions for use with explanation texts. I traced these myself, from screen captures, for use with a Year 4 class, for them to annotate and label, for use with writing explanation texts.
