Teaching for mastery in primary maths is developed in partnership with Mathematics Mastery and White Rose Maths.

Our goals are to:

  • provide practical support to teachers
  • provide quality-assured lesson resources and teaching materials
  • introduce teachers to the concepts of teaching for mastery
  • provide subject knowledge guidance to support professional development

This project is useful for all primary teachers who are interested in enriching their maths teaching and knowledge of mathematics.

Mathematics Mastery

Mathematics Mastery is a professional development programme for teachers. We work in partnership with schools to embed a mastery approach to mathematics teaching, aiming to improve pupils’ understanding, enjoyment and attainment in mathematics. Our approach is based on research and internationally recognised practice, inspired by Singapore and Shanghai. Our key principles underpin all that we do. We have high expectations for every child. We teach fewer topics in greater depth. We emphasise problem-solving and conceptual understanding.

White Rose Maths

White Rose Maths is an organisation within Trinity MAT that aims to work collaboratively with teachers across the country to improve mathematics teaching. Our resources and materials are used in many schools and we have a range of training that is accessed by hundreds of teachers each year. Inspired and informed by robust, world-class research and global maths experts, it’s our mission to transform maths education and change the experience of maths forever.

We’re achieving this by overturning those negative perceptions and beliefs. In their place, we’re building confidence, enthusiasm and a passion for maths. Where maths might once have seemed an impossible barrier, we’re showing that instead, it’s an exciting adventure that everyone can enjoy, value and master.
