In this chapter, pupils draw 2D shapes and build 3D shapes.

Pupils draw 2D shapes to given dimensions and angles. They recognise, describe and build simple 3D shapes, including making nets. They experience many practical, real-life examples of the use of this, as well as across the curriculum (eg, in art and design).

The resource focuses on the following White Rose Maths small steps:

Measure with a protractor

Introduce angles
Calculate angles
Vertically opposite angles
Angles in a triangle
Angles in a triangle, special cases
Angles in a triangle – missing angles**

The resource contains 25 worksheets / activities (concrete, pictorial and abstract) linked to the above small steps with an emphasis on the mastery approach to learning advocated by the White Rose scheme and includes reasoning and problem-solving tasks. Answer keys and solutions are included.

These resources will develop the pupils ability to achieve the following Year 2 Maths National Curriculum Objectives:-

Draw 2-D shapes using given dimensions and angles.

Compare and classify geometric shapes based on their properties and sizes and find unknown angles in any triangles, quadrilaterals and regular polygons.

Recognise angles where they meet at a point, are on a straight line, or are vertically opposite, and find missing angles.

This is a worksheet/investigation/activity that can be used to decipher the nets of 3d shapes. I'm sorry but the extension won&'t come out on this document, but all you need to do is draw spots on the nets and draw corresponding spots on the correct side of the cube. The base square also needs colouring.
