About Edge Grove

Founded in 1935, we are a vibrant and successful day and boarding prep (IAPS) school for boys and girls aged between 3 and 13, characterised by a genuine commitment to the pursuit of excellence. There are currently 525 pupils at the School with a family style environment for our 42 boarding beds utilised by a range of weekly and flexi boarders. The School employs around 125 staff.

We are fortunate to be situated within 45 acres of parkland, only 15 miles from central London and conveniently located close to the M1 and M25 motorways. Our wonderful setting and facilities ensure our children are exposed to a wide range of experiences and develop confidence in a challenging, fun and inspirational environment.

At Edge Grove we offer a holistic education by encouraging the development of the whole individual, seeking to find and foster talent whether in the classroom, the art room, in music, on the stage or on the sports field. We firmly believe that all children can and will excel at something.

We encompass the traditional values of good manners and self-discipline coupled with a modern and progressive approach. We offer an education that instils self-assurance and a passion for learning that stays with children for the rest of their lives. Our first class teaching resources, strong academic approach and accessible and enjoyable teaching methods allow pupils to progress individually and reach their true potential in all spheres of school life.

At Edge Grove we are proud of our academic performance and children are prepared for a wide range of senior schools across the country, carefully chosen to suit their academic and extra-curricular strengths. Edge Grove pupils characteristically approach the next stage of the educational journey with confidence and distinction.

Edge Grove was most recently inspected by ISI under an RCI in November 2018 which confirmed that we are fully compliant in all the standards, including the Early Years Foundation Stage and the National Minimum Standards for Boarding. This followed a full integrated inspection in 2015 with the School being awarded ‘Excellent’ across all nine inspection categories. The report from 2015 highlighted how successful the school is in achieving its ambitious aims, including that of providing high standards of academic achievement through innovative teaching to ensure all pupils reach their full potential. It also reflects the importance the school places on learning in its broadest sense and in the recruitment and development of outstanding teachers and leaders.

Working at Edge Grove offers the opportunity to be part of a vibrant and welcoming community, committed to academic excellence and the highest standards of pastoral care for its pupils. The Governors consider the development of excellence in the education offered to the pupils to be the underlying purpose of activities undertaken by all staff.

What people say about us

There is a real feeling of collegiality. I don’t think that I have ever worked with such a friendly, supportive, enthusiastic team of colleagues – and I have been around a bit! At Edge Grove you can take the initiative - since joining I have set up the Paris trip for year 6 and am really excited with the new languages programme.

I love that I’m encouraged to try new things out and be innovative… and if it doesn’t work out, I’m supported to learn lessons, dust myself off and try again. I love the people I work with across the school. I work with some awesome, talented, funny, dedicated staff My job gives me the opportunity to have a positive impact on children's lives and make a difference every day. I go home and I know I made a real difference, which I love.

Clichéd but true, Edge Grove school is a family. I joined the school 3 year ago and have never had such a warm and friendly welcome. From the cozy log fires in the staff room whilst surrounded by snow to the cheerful camaraderie on the sports fields and competitive inter-house competitions you can always find a reason to smile. The students here are articulate, polite and have a readiness to learn, they carry themselves with confidence and have a great sense of humor that makes teaching fun. As a staff member you are encouraged to try out new ideas and you are recognized and rewarded for your hard work both in the classroom and beyond. All the staff whether academic, pastoral, admin or catering are supportive and that is what makes the school such a positive teaching environment.

Edge Grove is like a home from home. The very first day I started work at Edge Grove I was made to feel a part of the school and all that they believe in. The main aspect that inspired me to want to work at Edge Grove is their knowledge of teaching and their aim of growing into a one in a million school. When you’re appreciated and your skills are valued, only great things can happen, I look forward to see where my journey goes.

A friendly and supportive environment. Your hard work feels appreciated and rewarded. Staff development is a priority. Parents are supportive of what you do and trust that you are doing your best for their child. The school’s expectations of pupils are clearly there to make them respected, polite and more rounded individuals.

First and foremost is that warm feeling that I get as I am made to feel like I am a valued member of the Edge Grove community; I am a part of the ‘big picture’. My opinions are always listened to and acknowledged. I have every avenue covered if I need to ask for assistance and the Pre Prep team are always there to answer my ‘silly questions’. They have all the time in the world for me! The children are very polite, well-mannered and very enthusiastic and that makes my job that bit easier. And just as importantly…the meals are to die for! What better reason to come in to work each day?

Edge Grove is the fifth school where I have taught and my experience here is like no other. The children are as fabulous as the curriculum is varied. The staff are extremely professional enabling the comradery to be fun, strong and unified, and I truly feel inclusively welcomed as part of a team. The winter sun streams through the windows of the oak wood paneled staff room while the open fire crackles. Fresh coffee and cake or cheese on toast at break times makes my diet impossible to keep up. A small sacrifice to pay for working in such a rewarding environment.

Life at Edge Grove School provides a warm friendly working community. As a fairly small school you quickly get to know every single member of staff personally from SLT to the kitchen staff. Mr and Mrs Evans place great emphasis on making everyone feel welcome and part of the Edge Grove community. The idyllic school setting surrounded by beautiful countryside, makes the drive into work a lovely start to the day. Coming from a Secondary Comprehensive in South West London, it has been a huge change for me, faced with very different challenges. But the support from staff, pupils and parents have made my decision a positive one.
