About Gretton School

Gretton School is a specialist day and residential school for children and young people with autistic spectrum conditions (ASC), specifically high functioning autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.

The school provides individually tailored programmes of education, care and therapy for students between the ages of 5 and 19 years old.

We value the contribution each child and young person brings to the life of the school and have a philosophy of continuously recognising and reinforcing achievement.

Gretton has a person-centred focus, providing each child with a personalised education and care programme tailored to help meet their unique needs.

High priority is given to providing an appropriate learning environment and curriculum in which creativity, independence and acquisition of learning skills thrive.

Working in close partnership with parents and carers is an essential part of our culture as we recognise that parents know their child best. Parents are always welcome at the school and the experienced, dedicated and well-qualified staff members are always ready to listen, give support and provide reports on each child’s progress.

What people say about us

I have enjoyed working here since I started in September 2016. All the staff here are great and I have never worked in a school where the staff support each other so much, not only in lessons but also outside the classroom. Each day here is different and you get to know lots of different students and see them learn and progress; not only lessons but in life too.

- Form Tutor

I can say without any hesitation, how much I love my role here at Gretton. Leaving mainstream education and coming to a school where the entire focus is to promote progression and individualise support for the unique learner; feels like I have found my ultimate niche. I am never bored and every day I learn something new and incredible about ASC and other associated conditions. I work with some of the brightest most intelligent minds, who just happen to see the world slightly differently to me; who in turn, have helped me develop strategies for my profoundly autistic son. I am the happiest I have been in my entire career.

- Subject Co-Ordinator, DT Teacher

This is my fourth SEN school and since starting at Gretton in June 2016, it has been a pleasure to work alongside the most dedicated and hard-working team of colleagues. Each day the team go over and above expectations, to ensure every student is given the same opportunity to progress, feel happy and safe

- Examination Officer, KS4 Form Tutor, PHSE Coordinator

‘A massive big thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the teachers and staff of the school for giving my grandaughter her life back. Thanks to you she has excelled so much this year and to watch her this afternoon in the production was fantastic. Lots of tears and laughter, well done to all.’

- Parent

‘Thank you so much for everything you have done for our son. You gave him belief in himself as a learner and the tools to put it into action. We believe you have changed the course of his life and we will never be able to express the extent of our gratitude to you.’

- Parent

‘Thank you for everything you have done for my son. He’s a changed boy since he started college and I have you to thank for it. It’s been a rough ride but the future is looking bright for him.’
