About Queen's Park Primary School
Queen’s Park Primary School is housed in a pleasant Victorian building with classrooms opening out onto the school playground via French doors.
The school is well served by public transport with bus, rail, London Overground and Underground links nearby. It is situated in an attractive residential area within walking distance of local shops, restaurants and cafes.
Queen’s Park is a medium sized school with approximately 320 pupils, from Nursery to Year 6. Queen’s Park draws pupils from a socially and culturally diverse local community. Queen’s Park was last inspected by OfSTED in 2013. The school was judged to be ‘good’ and the report was extremely positive and highlighted many areas of strength.
Over 30 languages are spoken by pupils and their families representing over 60 countries. The main languages spoken, other than English, are Arabic and Bengali.
We include children with a wide range of abilities and needs, including those who are exceptionally able and those who have learning difficulties and statements of special educational needs. Our staff has a positive attitude towards inclusion and is highly trained and highly skilled.
The rich diversity of our pupil intake is both stimulating and challenging for staff, in terms of the skills required in the classroom, and the priorities expressed by parents. Many parents take an active interest in their children’s education; are in regular contact with staff and give us a great deal of support and encouragement. This is a healthy partnership which the school encourages. There is a lively and involved Governing Body, where many members are also parents.
In addition to the classrooms we have an ICT room with 30 PCs and 30 laptops, an art room, a school library, and a number of smaller teaching rooms for interventions including one which houses our kiln. We have two playgrounds which provide the children with a small football pitch.
We are well provided with resources for teaching across the curriculum. The school budget is supplemented by funds raised by our active Parent Teacher Association, which also arranges enjoyable social events. Visits to a wide range of local venues and those which are further afield are frequently made in order to support learning across the curriculum. Likewise we invite visitors from such venues to the school.
We have 12 class teachers as well as a specialist PE teacher who works with classes throughout the school. We also have a large inclusion team made up of Early Years Educators, Teaching Assistants and a team of Learning Support Assistants who support pupils in class. We also have a family support worker, a site officer and three office staff. We have a number of regular volunteer workers, including those who are parents.
We are committed to providing children with the best education possible. We believe that children being able to read, write and solve maths problems is the absolute minimum they should be able to do when they leave for secondary school. We also want to develop and nurture scientists, sports people, musicians, actors, artists, designers, historians, geographers and so much more. We are one of a handful of schools that have been selected for the London Music Masters Bridge Project which will provide all our children with the opportunity to learn the violin from year 1 and to expand their skills as musicians when they enter key stage 2 by choosing further instruments if they choose to via Westminster Music Hub.
Our staff is a mixture of people who have worked in the school over an extended period, as well as those who are less experienced and recently appointed. Staff members are lively, friendly, supportive and committed and between them have an impressive range of skills and a great sense of humour. Queen’s Park is a thriving school serving a wonderful community. We are a school committed to inclusion and our ethos pervades everything we do. We have high expectations of our pupils both in terms of attainment and behaviour. We respect and welcome the diversity in our community as well as thinking of ourselves as one big family.
