About Shebbear College
Shebbear College is an independent, co-educational, all-through school for children aged 3-18, with around 350 students. Located in the village of Shebbear, near Beaworthy in Devon, the school was first established by the Methodist Bible Christian Society in 1829.
Shebbear College is available to both day and boarding students, and maintains an 85-acre rural campus with extensive sports and boarding facilities, not far from the cities of Exeter, Plymouth and Barnstaple. The campus has seen extensive redevelopment and modernisation over the years, with modern facilities including a sixth form centre and a dedicated music building.
Values and vision
Thanks to its founding members, as well as its membership of the Methodist Independent Schools Trust, Shebbear College draws a great deal from its Christian ethos, and maintains its own chapel. Academically, the school invests heavily in order to ensure excellence among its pupils; it maintains small class sizes and a flexible curriculum in order to help students pursue their own personal academic disciplines. Extra-curricular activities also play a huge role in school life, with Shebbear regularly competing against other schools in competitive sporting events.
“The pupils’ personal development is excellent and the school is highly successful in enabling pupils to develop into confident, responsible young adults, aware of their obligations to the wider world. Pupils who board are very happy and say that boarding helps them to grow in maturity.”
